Indian cyberspace in danger

-Tuner_desk Few weeks back, Checkpoint researchers released a report stating that 28 per cent of organisations of various sectors had been affected in malvertising campaign happened in the month of June of this year. In addition to that, another report revealed by them on global cyber threats seems to be shocking. The research team also runs ThreatCloud Map, which is powered by Check Point’s ThreatCloud intelligence to detect the cyber threats happening globally. In that report, the company divisionised the severity of threats and vulnerable countries in three colours; green, red and white. Under the tricoloured category, the firm marked India with red highlighting the possibility of having high risk of cyber attacks. Highlighting RoughTed- one of the malvertisers at top, researchers listed the malwares and adwares as per the threat report in that month. According to the researchers at Checkpoint, the malvertiser had fooled almost all major companies of various sectors by linking them to malicious websites and payloads including scams, adware and ransomware of 150 countries in late may. Leaving the second place to Fireball with 20 per cent of infected organisations, researchers placed Slammer worm in third place of infecting 4 per cent of companies. Also, the researchers had found another creepy news through their Threat cloud intelligence, which have been monitoring the data and threats of global network of threat sensors. As a result, after analysing over 250 million addresses for bot discovery they found that around 11 million malware signatures and 5.5 million infected websites and millions of malware types. Importantly, the researchers have marked severity level, where India is marked as riskier nation for cyber attacks. Meanwhile, Indian railway minister Suresh Prabu announced that the ministry is working on cyber security improvisation in railway networks. But the flaw here in India's largest transport network is with the usage of outdated operating systems in computers, which are being used for ticketing and data storage. Till today, computers used in ticket counters of suburban, urban and even metropolitian areas are running on outdated windows operating systems. And usage of those outdated operating system with unpatched critical flaws may lead cyber devastation in rail network. What can be done to avoid further attacks in future? To began the journey to safe cyber world, * Update your computers from old operating systems with patched new one. * Avoid using cracked and illegal applications. * Never install third party applications from unknown or untrusted source. * Use reliable and reputed antivirus softwares. * Importantly, have the habit of updating the patches and firmwares regularly. * Be carefull, while giving permission to any app or program. * Also, be careful with links, pdf documents, attachments that you receive from various mediums including mail, whatsapp, etc.
