War on the way
Recent reports and researchers findings say that, 'India is yet to face cyber war, which may result millions and billions of loses, due to insecure firewall and industrialists carelessness.'If you're a regular follower of cyber security news and reports, you could have heard about global threat WannaCry and its effect on Indian cybersecurity. It is not mandatory for a CEO or an industrialist to look on cyber security. But that leisure ideology made many industries to have ransomware attack in last month. Continuing that, this month security researchers revealed a report that around 50-70 per cent of companies doesn't care on company's cyber security and failed to inspect their corporate server's firewall. Few weeks back, Control risks, a global security consultancy conducted a poll with 500 IT and business leaders, across 20 countries. As a result, they found, 'Many board directors doesn't consider cyber security as important which had led many companies to recent cyber attack.' Before them, kaspersky's Q1 data report of this year revealed the statistics on cyber crimes in accordance with countries. In that report too, India has been placed on sixth place with 30 per cent of malware attacks through smart phones and apps installations. Besides these reports and data, Checkpoint Cyber security consultancy online monitoring data on firewalls found to be heart breaking. For many years, the consultancy has been monitoring world level cyber attacks through 'Threat Cloud' powered by 'Threat Cloud Intelligence'. From their findings, Today alone 897,411 cyber attacks has been happened from 12 am to 2.45 am across the world. Considering India in the category, this week alone around 32% bot communication attacks,18.1% attacks to access resources, of malicious file transfer and 49.4% other attacks made on Indian servers by the hackers from USA and other western countries. Interestingly, India has been ranked in third place as the most targeted country in cyber attacks by dominant countries like US, Russia and Germany. How about India? Next to Germany and Columbia, India has been receiving lot of cyber attacks from the dominants. Especially, the southern states of the nation including Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai servers are being attacked more than other states. Especially between 8am to 4pm, the attacks are more vigorous. During night, the attackers target are diverted to Manchester Mumbai and capital delhi. Reminding the last month's havoc,'WannaCry'- a ransomware attack that caused billions of financial losses across the world Crushed the southern states of India in large scale. We, the south Indians suffered in large scale. Starting from Tirumala devastanam Computers and Andhra Cyber security computers, ransomware attack had completely betrayed the online activity and work functions for a month. As I said earlier, the flaw is no where, it here., which is so called as human born flaw, 'Carelessness'. What we gonna do? Prevention is better than cure. So, online users are recommended to update the system data and firmwares regularly. To yield to better security, reply on trusted and paid antivirus softwares. Along with that, also hold the back-up of your files and system in a separate medium. Past president of Cyber Society of India, Rajendran told DailyTuner ,'Today many industrialists and corporates are not caring much about the cyber security, which led ransomware attack recently across the world. Now, we are addicted to reduce complexity in handling accounts and credential data. This lead to the increase of cyber attacks. The more we go for ease-access, the more we have security flaws. Also, none are seeing the external features of the product, say firewall. To stay for threats and attacks, the only way is to use upgraded versions of softwares, operating system and trusted firewalls. Before buying or installing a firewall, the user have read out the features of it and use according to it.' 'According to that report, the blame has to go with business corporates and users. Ease access and reduced security awareness lead India to place on second targeted country in cyber attacks,' says an ethical hacker from Chennai.
